Armenian born Arshak Ghalumyan started his ballet education at the age of 9 at the Armenian State Balletschool in Yerevan. After the participation at the renown Prix de Lausanne competition in 2002, he was given a grant to join the Hamburg Ballet school to fulfill his training as a professional ballet dancer. After graduation in 2004 Arshak joined the Berlin State Ballet and was promoted to Soloist in 2011.

During his time in Berlin State Ballet he was blessed to work with numerous choreographers and given many soloist and main roles: Jirí Kylián: »Rückkehr ins fremde Land«, William Forsythe: »The Second Detail«, Jerome Robbins: »The Concert«, George Balanchine: »Jewels«, Giorgio Madia: »Alice's Wonderland« (Die Einladung), Clark Tippet: »Bruch Violin Concerto No 1«, Angelin Preljocaj: »Schneewittchen«, Ohad Naharin: »Secus«, Jean-Christophe Maillot: »Altro Canto«, Heinz Spoerli: »Peer Gynt« (The death).

This vast variety of repertoire and choreographers led Arshak to discover his own passion for choreography and creational processes. Over the last few years Arshak has created several pieces for the Berlin company as well as for international companies: Mare Crisium, C-020, Don Quixote, M.U.S.A., Blind Mind and many more. Furthermore, Arshak enjoys working with young talents for whom he gives workshops on a regular basis.
